HATTERAS – jean’s fine art print
HATTERAS – Jean’s Fine Art Lithograph edition – image size: 18-1/2″ H x 29-1/2″ W. Hatteras Lighthouse on North Carolina’s Outer Banks is the tallest lighthouse in the states, and arguably one of the most graceful and beautiful. It is still a working lighthouse, and protects mariners from the treacherous waters of Diamond Shoals, where the Labrador Current sweeping down from Canada collides with the Gulf Stream Current arcing up from Florida. Barrier islands are always shifting and protecting the mainland from storms and Hatteras Island was no different; the lighthouse, built in the 1800s over a mile inland, now was standing on the brink, and in danger of being inundated and lost in the Atlantic Ocean. In 1999, the lighthouse was moved another 1/2 mile inland to protect it from that fate, but I had already photographed it as it had stood on the beach.Unframed
