THE FIRST DAY – Framed dimensions: 11-1/2″ H x 14″ W. Many years ago, we used to own several horses. One was a Thoroughbred mare who was newly in foal when we bought her. For 11 months we followed her pregnancy, bought books preparing us for the new arrival, and how to know when it might take place. Sure enough, when our mare began running milk, the foal was born in the wee hours of the next day. I was surprised that it acted like a little wild thing, afraid of me, even though its mother was completely tame. That first day, the foal wouldn’t let me touch her, but I photographed many touching moments between her and her mother. This one sums up to perfection in my mind’s eye the love of a mother for her baby. Framed in formal gold/silver frame, no mats. $497.00
