THE WAY IT WAS – Jean’s Limited Lithograph Edition Fine Art Print – image size: 20″ H x 16″ W. North Carolina’s Outer Banks are not only famous for their beautiful beaches and graceful lighthouses, but also for their wild horses. These “ponies” as they’re called have been isolated for so long that their DNA is pure, undiluted by other horses, and traceable back to Spanish mustangs. There are no pintos. For centuries they roamed freely from the VA state line southward to and beyond the little town of Corolla. They are so beautiful, and were in constant danger from being hit by cars because tourists would feed them. For their preservation, they were rounded up and placed in the northernmost area of the wild Corolla Beach, with an impoundment fence built to keep them from wandering southward where civilization offered trouble in the forms of vehicular accidents and irate homeowners protecting their immaculate lawns from marauding horses. They sometimes still swim around the fence to make a raid on a yard! $175.00
